Management of UEFI devices

The version of OpenGnsys 1.1.1 Espeto allows managing UEFI devices with Secure Boot enabled.

Efforts have been made to ensure that the management of UEFI devices affects the use of OpenGnsys as little as possible, so that the user does not have to modify their way of working.

Features and limitations of version 1.1.1:

  • UEFI devices can be booted via PXE, allowing several options: starting ogLive, the operating system of a partition, or a boot loader such as rEFInd or grub2.
  • If we have secure boot enabled to use rEFInd, we must configure it as explained in the documentation. It cannot be used on some types of hardware.
  • Images can be created, and Windows and Ubuntu operating systems can be restored. Tests have not been conducted with other Linux distributions.
  • Windows and Linux can be booted in the same way as on BIOS devices: from PXE by calling the boot loader of the partition or the hard drive, from the start session command, or from the device's start menu.
  • Devices can have two Windows and two Ubuntu simultaneously.

The documentation can be expanded in the user manual.
